$5,000 for this new, dynamic organization to strengthen media and legal advocacy skills in its efforts to address gender-based violence, female genital mutilation, and other threats to women’s rights and welfare in the Mano River region.

$15,000 for support of the leading human rights organization in northern Sierra Leone which seeks to strengthen community awareness of human rights principles and laws, reduce gender-based violence, highlight abuses of child laborers, and strengthen women’s rights at the community level.
Forum for Africa Women Educationalists (FAWE)
$20,000 for FAWE’s project to challenge impunity for sexual and gender-based violence, strengthen its institutional capacity to address recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, provide psycho-social services and protection for potential female witnesses before the Special Court, and help rape survivors seek justice through the local courts.

$40,000 for general support of this organization, whose activities include promoting the rights of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) and establishing local mechanisms for monitoring violations and strengthening protection measures in refugee and IDP camps in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea.
Legal Access Through Women Yearning for Equality Rights and Social Justice (LAWYERS)
$20,000 for their project to conduct investigations and legal and policy work to promote access to justice for women and girls in detention who are detained for long periods of time, are subject to an ineffective, patriarchal justice system, and lack legal knowledge or assistance.
National Forum for Human Rights (NFHR)
$25,000 for general support of this organization, whose activities include skills training for human rights activists, advocacy related to the Special Court and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and information dissemination on human rights in Sierra Leone.
Post-Conflict Reintegration for Development and Empowerment (PRIDE)
$25,000 for general support of this organization, whose activities include training, counseling and advocacy with regard to ex-combatants and peace and reconciliation processes. New programs will focus on counseling and re-integration of female ex-combatants and the growing threat of HIV/AIDS.

Grassroots Empowerment for Self Reliance (GEMS)
$15,540 to support GEMS’ project to raise awareness on the devastating impact of denying women the right to inherit property and to conduct a national campaign to establish a woman’s right to inherit.
National Forum for Human Rights (NFHR)
$25,000 for general support for NFHR, a coalition of twenty-eight human rights organizations, and its work with member organizations to strengthen their human rights documentation and monitoring skills and in collaboration with the Special Court and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission to encourage broad participation in their proceedings.
Post-Conflict Reintegration for Development and Empowerment (PRIDE)
$20,000 for general support of PRIDE, which provides rights education and counseling for ex-combatants, many of whom were recruited as children. PRIDE also seeks to generate support for the processes and goals of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Special Court, and trains ex-combatants on the importance of these institutions in building a peaceful society.
Forum for Africa Women Educationalists (FAWE)
$20,000 to support FAWE’s project to promote women’s human rights, with special attention to minimizing women’s risk of contracting HIV/AIDS and providing justice and support for survivors of gender-based violence.
Foundation for International Dignity (FIND)
$40,000 in general support of FIND’s work to promote the rights of refugees and internally displaced persons in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea. FIND trains refugees and IDPs to act as human rights monitors in the camps and to gather information on human rights problems, and works with these communities to develop strategies to protect their rights.
