$20,000 for BELA’s project to pursue public interest litigation, public awareness and media campaigns, and human rights training to protect the right to a healthy environment.


Centre for Indigenous Peoples Research & Development (CIPRAD)
$10,000 for this organization to promote capacity building of indigenous communities to do human rights work.


Centre for Rehabilitation of Torture Survivors (CRTS)
$5,000 for CRTS’ project to build its institutional capacity to end the practice of torture in Bangladesh.


Nagorik Uddyog (NU)
$25,000 for general support of this organization, whose activities include  human rights education through training, grassroots organizing among youth, and legal support to promote the rights of the rural poor.
          

Parittran
$5,000 for general support of this organization, which promotes the rights of ethnic minorities through public education campaigns, litigation, and grassroots organizing.


2004


Bangladesh Environmental Law Association (BELA)

$12,500 to set up a network of human rights activists in Chittagong working to protect land, resource and health rights through training, public education and legal aid.


Nagorik Uddyog

$20,000 for general support of this organization, whose activities include training, human rights education and legal support of the rural poor to promote their right to vote and participate in policymaking decisions that affect their lives.

Parittran

$5,000 for general support of this organization whose work promotes the rights of ethnic minorities and women in southwestern Bangladesh through public education campaigns, community mobilization, and networking with nongovernmental and community-based groups.



2003


Human Rights Journalists’ Forum of Bangladesh (BMSF)

$5000 to support BMSF’s project to promote press coverage of human rights issues related to HIV/AIDS.

Nagorik Uddyog

$20,000 in general support of NU, which provides training, human rights education and legal and policy support to the rural poor to promote their political rights, access to justice and political participation.


Bangladesh Environmental Law Association (BELA)

$30,000 for BELA’s project to set up a network of human rights activists in Chittagong, a region that is home to several indigenous communities, some of which have been displaced due to indiscriminate illegal logging and extraction of natural resources.
