South Asia Grants

In South Asia, the Fund focuses on India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. These three countries share human rights challenges: corruption is entrenched, ethnic and religious minorities often face violence and/or pervasive discrimination, and abuses by police and justice system officials are widespread. The region continues to grapple with considerable inequality, injustice, and violence. The rights of the poor are increasingly under threat.

The Fund supports forty-eight human rights organizations in this region. The Fund's grant-making priorities in this region include strengthening access to justice and economic rights for women, protecting and promoting the rights of ethnic, religious, and sexual minorities, fostering grassroots movements to defend the rights of the poor to land and livelihoods, and countering efforts to weaken labor rights.
