Grantee ProfilesLatin America The Fund maintains grant-making programs in Mexico and Guatemala. Both countries are in a critical phase for human rights: Mexico as it navigates the transition to democracy, and Guatemala as it struggles to overcome the legacy of civil war. In both countries, a primary challenge lies in ensuring that changes in the political landscape produce more accountable public institutions, particularly the justice system and police or security forces. The Fund supports forty-eight human rights organizations in these two countries. The Fund’s human rights priorities include: reform of the police and judicial system, community-based legal defense and advocacy, promotion of rule of law and access to justice, and promoting land rights for peasant farmers and indigenous peoples. Visit the individual country pages to find out more about our work and a list of current grantees in that location.
