Job Opportunity: Program Officer for Egypt
Application Deadline: May 31, 2012
THE ORGANIZATION
The Fund for Global Human Rights is a leading supporter of on-the-ground human rights groups around the world. Dedicated to finding and funding the most effective human rights activists in countries from Africa to South East Asia to Latin America, the Fund for Global Human Rights offers grants and facilitates technical support to ensure the long-term effectiveness and viability of frontline groups working in challenging conditions with scant resources.
Since 2002, the Fund has awarded over $28 million to more than 350 human rights organizations in twenty-five countries. Grantees work on a wide range of issues from indigenous land rights in Guatemala, to women’s rights in Morocco, to accountability for war crimes in West Africa, to discrimination against HIV positive people in India.
THE EGYPT PROGRAM
Egypt’s revolution has presented both huge opportunities and challenges for human rights activists. With its grant-making program in Egypt, the Fund for Global Human Rights aims to deliver financial resources to effective and emerging human rights actors as they push for a transition that offers meaningful political participation and delivers improved respect for human rights.
The Fund’s approach to grant-making—developed over the past eight years of building programs in diverse contexts—focuses on funding dynamic, young organizations; emerging issues, and movements that aim to build broad-based constituencies for human rights.
